When I meet friends, I often hear them talk about how difficult it is to raise children—discipline struggles, the burden of private education costs, kids who won’t go to bed on time, frustration over grades that don’t improve, complaints about school, and long nights filled with unfinished homework.
But I rarely find myself sharing those concerns. When I think of my children, I feel as though I’ve been given one of life’s greatest blessings. Because of them, I have become a better person, and my life has grown richer and more vibrant. Every day, they offer me a new way of seeing the world. They reveal parts of life I would never have noticed on my own. It feels as if they have added two more eyes beside mine, expanding the spectrum of what I can see. Both my reason and my emotions have deepened in ways I never expected. I never imagined that such small yet immense beings could open up this kind of world to me.
From the moment I wake them in the morning to the moment they fall asleep, each part of the day feels filled with quiet wonder. Of course, it’s not that there are no challenges. But compared to the surprise, joy, and the new understanding of the world they bring me, those difficulties feel small. My children grow on their own, and in doing so, they help me grow as well.
What I offer them may be quite simple—some old-fashioned advice, protection from physical harm, and the occasional imperfect meal. Rather than “raising” them, I feel that I am living alongside them. In that shared life, they reveal endless insights about the world and the human heart. I hope I never disturb their ability to see things with fresh eyes, to find joy in the smallest details, and to feel wonder so freely.
So I gently set aside the idea that I must teach them something. Perhaps there is not much I truly need to teach. They are already warm, joyful, and beautiful in their own ways. And I believe the world they will create will reflect that—full of curiosity, warmth, and beauty.
