출발(Departure).

Into the unknown! show me yourself!

I felt strangely mixed emotions today.

It felt like I was saying goodbye to the 39 years of life I’ve lived and was about to be reborn. Memories of past events flashed before my eyes, one by one. I’ve always been someone fearful of unfamiliar experiences. I used to find ways to escape or look for people to help me cope. Yet, no matter how much I tried to run away, I eventually had to face everything head-on—the fears, the loneliness, the clumsy, inadequate version of myself. Despite being fearful, lacking, and clumsy, I somehow made it through. There were even accomplishments along the way.

Realizing that, in the end, things somehow pass, I became grateful for the grace received in the midst of it all. It wasn't something I did, but something that happened. Even without any clear goals, I tried to focus on the moment and put my heart into it. Sometimes, the direction of my efforts was misguided, but I still learned something along the way. When it felt like I had lost something, I was actually in the process of learning something that would propel me forward.

Nevertheless, change is still frightening. I’ve willingly let go of all I’ve accumulated and packed three large bags. I’ll probably have to pay for excess baggage. Even with three bags, it feels like I haven’t packed enough. Perhaps, when I unpack, I might realize that I didn’t need as much as I thought. I get the sense that I packed a lot out of unnecessary concern.

I thought I’d be leaving lightly, letting go of the burdens of my 39-year-old habits, but my steps still feel heavy. As I try to shed these old habits and shells, the plane seems to need a long runway. To convert this heavy potential energy into kinetic energy, a strong thrust is required.

With plenty of support and love—even the courage to accept that I could give up if needed—the courage in my heart outweighs the fear, just a bit.

Into the unknown! Show me yourself!

In a country where crampons will be necessary from October, I wonder what new aspects of my inner self I’ll discover in Mongolia’s winter wonderland.

With more excitement than regret or lingering attachment, I decided to embark on this journey.
