미국인이 자주 쓰는 질문으로 영어 말하기를 익혀보세요



영어를 오래 공부했는데도 외국인을 만나면 무슨 말을 물어봐야 할지 막막할 때가 있습니다. 상대방이 하는 질문에는 어느 정도 대답할 수 있지만, 내가 먼저 질문하려고 하면 갑자기 말문이 막히기도 합니다. 영어 대화를 자연스럽게 이어가려면 대답하는 연습만큼 질문하는 연습이 중요합니다. 질문을 할 수 있어야 먼저 말을 걸 수 있고, 상대방의 경험과 생각을 물으며 대화를 계속 이어갈 수 있습니다. 그래서 이 글에서는 일상생활에서 활용도가 높은 영어 질문 300개를 쉬운 표현부터 중급 회화 패턴까지 단계적으로 익힐 수 있도록 구성했습니다.


공부하는 방법은 어렵지 않습니다. 먼저 영어 질문을 소리 내어 두세 번 읽고, 어떤 상황에서 사용하는 표현인지 짧은 영어 설명을 읽어보세요. 그다음 A와 B의 대화를 여러 번 소리 내어 말해봅니다. 처음에는 한글 뜻을 보면서 연습해도 좋지만, 익숙해지면 한글을 보지 않고 영어만 보고 말해보세요. 마지막에는 질문과 대답의 일부를 자신의 상황에 맞게 바꾸어 직접 말해보는 것이 좋습니다. 예를 들어 “How have you been?”이라고 질문한 뒤 “I've been pretty good. How about you?”라고 대답하면서 실제 사람과 이야기한다고 생각하고 연습해보세요.
