My Way 영어 말하기

Learn English with My Way

by김용년

삶과 관련된 life, way, regret, love, laugh, cry, feel 같은 기본 단어를 자연스럽게 만날 수 있기 때문입니다. “I worked hard.” “I made mistakes.” “I have learned a lot.”

예를 들어 “I chose my own way.” “I made mistakes, but I learned from them.”

Listen. Understand. Repeat. Speak.

“I worked hard. I made mistakes. I learned a lot.”

Learn English with My Way: Easy English for Your Life

My Way is a famous song sung by Frank Sinatra. It is about a man looking back on his life. He remembers his choices, his hard times, his love, his tears, and his regrets. His life was not perfect, but it was his own.

This song is also useful for English study because it talks about life with simple and strong ideas. We can learn how to speak about our past, our feelings, our choices, and our hopes. We can also learn how to tell our own story in English.

You do not need to understand every word in the song. First, understand the main meaning. Then learn a few useful words and short expressions. After that, make your own sentences.

The best way to study this song is to connect it to your life. Read the English slowly. Say it aloud. Then think about your own memories and speak about them in easy English.

1. Look Back on Your Life

Have you ever stopped and looked back on your life? Sometimes we are so busy that we forget how far we have come. My Way begins with a man looking back on the road behind him.

He remembers many things. He remembers work, travel, choices, people, and difficult moments. Some memories make him proud. Some may bring a little sadness.

You can talk about your past with very simple English. Say, “I worked hard.” “I met many people.” “I traveled to different places.” “I learned many things.” Short sentences can tell a big story.

Now think about one important time in your life. Where were you? What happened? What did you learn? Try to explain it in three short English sentences.

2. Live a Full Life

What is a full life? Is it a life with only success? Probably not. A full life can include joy, pain, success, failure, love, and loss.

The song gives us the feeling of a person who has really lived. He did many things. He went through many experiences. He can now look back and say that his life was full.

You can use “I have” to talk about your life. “I have worked for many years.” “I have met good people.” “I have traveled.” “I have learned from my mistakes.”

Think about what you have done in your life. Do not compare your story with another person’s story. Say three sentences about your own experiences.

3. Choose Your Own Way

The word “way” is the heart of My Way. It can mean a road. It can also mean the way we live, choose, think, and act.

We use “way” in many useful expressions. “This is my way.” “There is another way.” “I will find a way.” “Which way should I go?” These are simple, everyday sentences.

In life, people often give us advice. Sometimes that advice is helpful. But in the end, we must make our own choices. We cannot live another person’s life.

Think about one important choice you made. Why did you choose it? Was it easy or difficult? Try to say, “I chose my own way,” and then explain why.

4. Do What You Have to Do

There are times when we must do something even if it is hard. We have duties at work, at home, and in our relationships.

The expression “have to” is very useful. You can say, “I have to work today.” “I have to make a decision.” “I have to help my family.”

To talk about the past, say, “I had to work hard.” “I had to make a difficult choice.” You can also say, “I did what I had to do.”

Think about one hard responsibility you had in the past. What did you have to do? How did you feel? Try to explain it with two or three short sentences.

5. Everyone Has Some Regrets

Have you ever made a choice you later regretted? Most people have. Regret is a natural part of life.

We may regret a missed chance. We may regret something we said. We may wish we had made a different choice.

You can say, “I have some regrets.” “I made a mistake.” “I made a bad choice.” “I learned from it.” These sentences are simple but honest.

Do not stop at regret. Ask, “What did I learn?” Then try to explain one regret and one lesson in easy English.

6. Face Difficult Times

Life does not always go the way we want. Sometimes we fail. Sometimes we lose something important. Sometimes we feel unsure about the future.

My Way shows a person who faced hard times and kept going. He did not have an easy life. He had doubts and problems, but he did not stop.

You can say, “It was hard.” “I was afraid.” “I had doubts.” “I kept going.” “I did not give up.” These are very useful life sentences.

Think about one difficult time in your life. What happened? What helped you continue? Try to tell the story in three easy sentences.

7. Love, Laugh, and Cry

Life is not only about work or success. We also love, laugh, cry, and lose. These feelings make us human.

The song looks back on many emotions. There was love. There was laughter. There were tears. There were also losses.

You can say, “I was happy.” “I felt sad.” “I loved my family.” “I missed my friend.” “I cried.” Simple English can carry deep feelings.

Choose one happy memory and one sad memory. Try to speak about both. When English is connected to real feelings, it is easier to remember.

8. Say What You Really Feel

Sometimes we hide our feelings because we are afraid of what others may think. But good communication begins when we speak honestly and respectfully.

You can use four simple patterns: “I think,” “I feel,” “I believe,” and “I want.” These expressions help you talk about your ideas and emotions.

For example, “I think this is important.” “I feel tired today.” “I believe I can change.” “I want to try again.” You do not need difficult words.

Now choose one thing you truly think and one thing you truly feel. Say them in English. Your own thoughts are good material for speaking practice.

9. Accept Your Life

Looking back is not always easy. We may see good choices and bad choices. We may remember moments of pride and moments of pain.

Accepting your life does not mean saying that everything was right. It means knowing that all these moments are part of your story.

You can say, “This is my life.” “I did my best.” “I made mistakes.” “I learned a lot.” “I am thankful.” These are simple but meaningful sentences.

Think about your life as one long story. What are you thankful for? What did you learn? Try to say it in your own easy English.

10. Tell Your Own Story in English

The final goal is not to memorize the song. The goal is to use its ideas to talk about your own life.

Start with short sentences. “I have lived.” “I have loved.” “I have failed.” “I have learned.” “I kept going.” “This is my life.”

Then connect the sentences. You can say, “I have had good times and hard times. I have made mistakes, but I have learned from them. I am still learning. I will keep going.”

Read these sentences aloud every day. Then close the page and tell your story in your own words. Your English does not have to be perfect. Your life does not have to be perfect. What matters is that the story is yours.

Learn from your past. Keep going. And tell your own story in English.

My Way (Frank Sinatra)

A man looks back on his life. He knows that he is getting close to the end of his journey. He wants to speak honestly about the life he has lived.

He feels that his life was full. He traveled, worked, learned, and experienced many things. Most of all, he knows that he made his own choices and lived in his own way.

Of course, he has some regrets. No life is perfect. He made mistakes and sometimes chose the wrong road, but he did what he believed he had to do.

He tried to plan his life carefully. He chose his direction and took one step at a time. Things did not always go as planned, but he continued moving forward.

There were times when he tried to do too much. Sometimes the problems were bigger than he expected. He had doubts, but he faced those difficult moments and did not run away.

His life was also filled with many emotions. He loved, laughed, and cried. He enjoyed good times, but he also experienced sadness and loss.

Now he can look back at all those experiences. Even the difficult memories have become part of his story. He can accept both the happy times and the painful times.

He also believes that a person should be true to himself. We should be able to say what we really think and feel instead of always living by the wishes of other people.

His life shows that he faced many difficulties and continued standing. He was hurt at times, but he kept going and accepted the results of his own choices.

In the end, he does not say that his life was perfect. He says something more important. It was his life. He made his choices, faced the results, and walked his own road. It was his way.

My Way (Frank Sinatra)

And now the end is near

And so I face the final curtain

My friend I'll say it clear

I'll state my case of which I'm certain

I've lived a life that's full

I've traveled each and every high way

And more much more than this

I did it my way

Regrets, I've had a few

But then again too few to mention

I did what I had to do

saw it through without exemption

I planned each chartered course

Each careful step along the by way

And more much more than this

I did it my way

Yes there were times

I'm sure you knew

When I bit off more than I could chew

But through it all when there was doubt

I ate it up and spit it out

I faced it all and I stood tall

And did it my way

I've loved, I've laughed and cried

I've had my fill my share of losing

And now as tears subside

I find it all so amusing

To think I did all that

And may I say not in a shy way

Oh no oh no not me

I did it my way

For what is a man what has he got

If not himself then he has naught

To say the things he truly feels

And not the words of one who kneels

The record shows

I tooked the blows

And did it my way

Yes it was my way
