Eurosatory 2026:

Major Weapons & Defense Technology Highlights

June 15–19, 2026 | Paris, France

Eurosatory 2026 demonstrated a major shift in land warfare toward autonomous weapons, counter-drone defence, next-generation tanks, long-range artillery, and AI-enabled battlefield networks.

The most significant development was not simply the introduction of new armored vehicles.

Manufacturers increasingly demonstrated how tanks, drones, artillery, sensors, and air-defence systems could operate together.

1. Next-generation tanks and armored vehicles

KNDS CAPINT Main Battle Tank — France/Germany

World premiere

Combines an advanced Leopard 2A8-derived chassis with KNDS France’s unmanned ASCALON turret.

Designed as a potential intermediate-generation tank for European forces.

Strategic significance: a potential bridge between existing Leopard fleets and future European combat systems.

Italian Main Battle Tank (I-MBT) programme — Italy/Germany

Rheinmetall’s KF51 Panther technology, combined with Leonardo’s systems, featured in reporting around Italy’s next-generation tank programme.

This was a major development theme, although not every reported configuration represented a confirmed public launch.

Piranha Heavy Mission Carrier ARV — Switzerland/Germany

A 10×10 armored recovery prototype from GDELS and FFG, developed to recover and support increasingly heavy wheeled platforms, including RCH 155 artillery vehicles.

2. Long-range artillery and precision strike

KNDS LORAS — France/Germany

New system family

A newly introduced very-long-range artillery family designed to extend ground-force strike capabilities.

It reflects Europe’s growing interest in deeper precision fires.

Rheinmetall CML / FV-014 — Germany

World premiere

A containerized launcher carrying 18 FV-014 loitering munitions in a standard 20-foot container, with autonomous standby, network connectivity and integration into Rheinmetall’s reconnaissance-strike architecture.

MBDA DELUGE and THUNDART — Europe

MBDA highlighted its DELUGE one-way effector and the THUNDART precision-strike programme with Safran.

Both reflect the drive to field more affordable precision effects at scale.

3. Drones, unmanned ground vehicles and robotics

Patria–RENK TRACKX UGV — Finland/Germany

New concept

A heavy unmanned tracked vehicle concept incorporating RENK’s digital transmission and drive-by-wire controls. Intended to support future remotely operated and autonomous battlefield operations.

The show vehicle was a concept mock-up, not a confirmed operational platform.

KNDS MATARIS — France

A family of loitering munitions developed with Delair and EOS. KNDS highlighted the family at Eurosatory, including the MX-10, which had already entered French Army service in December 2025.

An important showcase, rather than an entirely new 2026 unveiling.

Other notable developments included robotic surveillance and combat support systems, such as Ondas’s Iron Wave and MODUS architectures, intended to coordinate unmanned platforms and counter-drone operations.

4. Counter-drone systems and short-range air defence

Counter-UAS was among the exhibition’s most prominent technology categories.

Important demonstrations included:

* Rheinmetall CUAS Kit: A turret upgrade concept for the Lynx KF41 reconnaissance vehicle.

* Lacroix S-KAPS: An upgraded soft-kill protection system combining passive RF detection and infrared surveillance.

* Modular mobile counter-drone platforms: Integrating radar, electronic warfare, electro-optical sensors and remotely operated weapons.

The central trend was layered protection: detect drones early, classify the threat and select between electronic disruption and physical interception.

5. AI-enabled fire control and battlefield networking

One particularly significant introduction was BAE Systems’ Next Generation Indirect Fire Control System.

Rather than being a new artillery gun, it is a digital system intended to connect artillery units with broader sensor and targeting networks, accelerating the transfer of targeting data to crews.

This represented a wider industry movement toward integrated sensor-to-shooter networks.

6. South Korean defense industry highlights

Hyundai Rotem

First public unveiling

Introduced its AI-enabled, unmanned-turret counter-drone layered defence concept combining radar-based detection, jamming, hard-kill interception and active protection.

The company also presented the K2 export tank concept, wheeled armored vehicles and its HR-SHERPA unmanned ground vehicle.

Other Korean participants:

* Hanwha Aerospace / Hanwha Systems: K9A1 artillery, loitering precision-guided weapons and multifunction radar technologies.

* Kia: Tasman-based military vehicle, Korean Light Tactical Vehicle and future medium/heavy military vehicle concepts.

* Boston Dynamics: Spot quadruped robotics for applications including reconnaissance and hazardous-environment inspection.

7. The five most important technological trends

Trend Why it matters

Counter-drone protection Survival against inexpensive, numerous UAV threats

Autonomous ground vehicles Reduces personnel exposure and supports logistics/reconnaissance

Long-range precision fires Extends strike reach and integrates drones with artillery

Unmanned tank turrets Changes crew protection and vehicle architecture

AI-enabled combat networks Connects sensors, command systems and weapon platforms

Overall assessment

The three introductions I would prioritize for further technical and industrial analysis are KNDS CAPINT, Rheinmetall’s containerized FV-014 launcher, and Hyundai Rotem’s AI-based counter-drone defence concept.

Together, they illustrate three major procurement directions: modernized heavy armor, scalable unmanned precision strike, and layered vehicle protection.

A key qualification is that Eurosatory included everything from concept mock-ups and prototypes to mature products already in service.

Exhibition unveiling does not necessarily mean successful testing, production readiness or an actual procurement contract.

For a defense-industry comparison, the next useful step would be a Eurosatory 2026 top-20 systems table showing manufacturer, country, capabilities, maturity, competitors and potential market impact.
